Past Meeting

David Vincent - 61 Cities, 3000 miles, 2 weeks: "TheDrive"

Classic cars in historic Oxford College
We were very proud to have hosted a most impressive array of Jaguar and other classic cars in the very heart of Oxford. This was to welcome David Vincent (XK150) and Craig Gardner (E-Type) who were visiting all 61 British Cities in two weeks to raise money for charity.

Now we had the chance to hear about the whole trip from David and to see some of the many pictures that were taken.

The Drive

The route The core of the talk focused around photographs taken in the 61 Cities and the route and events between them.

David also covered:

The Background - why we did it
The Planning - route, permission for the photos, overnights...
Car Preparation - including the recommissioning of the E type
Fundraising: highs and lows - sponsors and supporters.

Note: Donations will be split equally between the two Charities: Cancer Research UK and Downs Syndrome Association.

David Vincent

David Vincent David always had some petrol in the blood, learning to drive aged 12, when a Tractor needed moving about a quarter of a mile back to the neighbours farm. He moved on to a Morris 8, which was then stripped, to find out how a car worked, and by 15 was regularly driving Tractors and a Mini Van across stubble fields at harvest time.

His first Car was a 1964 Jaguar "S" Type 3.8 manual given as a 21st Birthday Present [It was a non runner worth about 25] His Dad had owned it from new and put in a barn rather than part-exchange it for 25, or scrap it. David still has the car ready for recommissioning!

He moved on to Austin Healeys, especially 100/4 and Ford Escorts, doing a bit of Rallying and a few Sprints & Hill Climbs [1978 - 1984].

He got back into Classic and Jags in early 2008, buying a [Steadman] SS100 Replica, found on the Internet.

David currently has 5 Jaguars at home [4 fully running + the S type] about 4 assorted Austin Healeys [in bits] a Riley 9, a 1935 Morris 8, an old 1975 Ford Escort [all in bits] plus a couple of Tractors and various other motorised equipment.
