Richard Tuthill - Porsches at the East African Safari Rally 2013

Porsche 01 We were very, very fortunate and pleased to welcome Francis Tuthill, the founder of Tuthill Porsche, to give us a talk on how they took seventeen Porsches to rally in Africa in 2013; possibly the largest rally team ever assembled.

The rally is run every two years and Tuthill Porsche have put a team together every time since 2003. It's an epic nine-day 3900 km marathon through Kenya and Tanzania and in 2013 they went there to defend their 2011 victory.

There was some professional footage of the event to see too.

Further information about Tuthill Porsche is at www.tuthillporsche.com.
Tuthill Porsche
Tuthill Logo Tuthill Porsche is a world-renowned preparation company that specialises in classic Porsches.

Originally founded by Francis Tuthill nearly 45 years ago, the general day-to-day running of the business has now been handed over to Francis's son Richard, who will be giving this evening's talk.

Over the years, Tuthill Porsche has grown in both size and stature and the company now employs more than 25 full-time members of staff. With the latest state-of-the-art technology and fully functioning workshop, the family-run firm still offers a comprehensive service for all Porsche, Volkswagen and Audi owners; which was at the root of the company's origins.

Porsche 02 But Tuthill's monumental success has been on the world stage. The company has been competing in rallying globally since 1977 when Francis took part in the London to Sydney Rally in a Volkswagen Beetle. And today Tuthill's competition efforts are focused on running Porsche 911s on extensive motorsport events all over the world; both ancient and now also modern.

The firm provides everything from custom built 911 rally cars, to full on-event support teams and Below Zero Ice Driving, which has been running very successfully for the last 9 years, first in Norway, but now in Sweden.
Porsche 03
Tuthill Porsche has broken records too. Bjorn Waldegard, the inaugural World Rally Champion in 1979, won the East African Safari Classic with Tuthill Porsche back in 2011. It marked the first time that Porsche had ever won the Safari Classic.

Last month, Richard entered a 997-model 911 rally car in the FIA's recently-introduced RGT class on Rallye Deutschland in Germany with co-driver Stephane Prevot. Tuthill Porsche claimed the first WRC finish for a Porsche 911 in almost three decades, finishing inside the top 30.
