Jonathan Heynes - Milestones of Jaguar

Bill Heynes We were delighted to welcome Jonathan Heynes who gave us a talk about Jaguar and his late father, William (Bill) Heynes CBE.

Bill's involvement covered everything from the SS100, through WWII war work, the XK engine and the development of disc brakes.

C-type Jaguar It was Bill who persuaded Lyons to invest in engines and the result was the famous XK design: the monocoque body design, particularly XK120, C, D and E models. He also was key in the development of the Mk 1, Mk 2 and Mk 10 right up to XJ 6 & 12 and XJS.

Jonathan Heynes also worked for Jaguar from 1964 to 1990. His time at Jaguar covered the XJ6 and the V12 engine, through managing various Jaguar overseas operations to working closely with John Egan to rebuild Jaguar's Reputation in the 1980s.

This was an absolutely fascinating evening about the evolution of the company and its people from an insider's point of view, illustrated with several dozen original photographs.
Jonathan Heynes
Jonathan Heynes Jonathan's career began as a Jaguar student apprentice 1964 in the Coventry Climax drawing office. He was involved in racing engine work, tool room and diesel assembly.

In 1967 he was Development Engineer at the Browns Lane Experimental plant during the development of the XJ6, XJ12, XJ25, V12, E-Type, XJS etc.

In 1973 he was the Experimental department manager in the Cape Town assembly plant for Triumph/Rover/Jaguar CKD XJ6.

He was Principal Engineer from 1975 to 1978 at the Jaguar USA HQ seeing the launch of the XJS, progressing to Jaguar Technical Service Manager worldwide from 1978 to 1980.

His next role was Task Force Manager for the Quality improvement programme from 1980 to 1983 and then Quality Operations Manager: Supplier Assurance from 1984 to 1990.
