Sir John Egan - "Saving Jaguar": 1980-1990

Sir John Egan Many of you will know about Sir John Egan, who was Chief Executive Jaguar from 1980 until 1990. For those who missed the brilliant talk Sir John gave in November in Coventry this was an opportunity to hear about how a vital part of the Motor Industry was saved from near disaster during a very difficult period and the recession of the 1980s.

Jaguar was seen as the weakest division of British Leyland and was beset by all sorts of difficulties as well as facing strong competition. Many thought it stood no chance - but Jaguar did survive, and indeed thrive - and it was not by accident.

Sir John was appointed to be Jaguar's Chief Executive in 1980 tasked with getting it sorted - and this talk is about that story - and what a story it is!

Sir John's book "Saving Jaguar" gives a first-hand account of that time.
